Math Salad Privacy Policy
Effective date: September 30, 2026
Math Salad is an educational math platform designed for students, parents, teachers, and authorized school staff. This Privacy Policy explains what information Math Salad may collect, how that information is used, who may see it, and the choices available to parents, teachers, schools, and account holders.
1. Student accounts and adult-managed access
Student accounts are created and managed by a parent, guardian, teacher, or other authorized school user. Students are not intended to create their own independent accounts. Adult account holders are responsible for having appropriate authority to create or manage a student profile.
2. Information Math Salad may collect
Depending on how Math Salad is used, we may collect or store the following categories of information:
- Adult account information: account name, email address, login information, account type, and related account settings.
- Student profile information: student name or display name, login credentials or PIN, age, grade, state, school or classroom relationships, and learning-profile settings.
- Learning and performance information: assigned work, practice activity, math problems presented, answers entered, correctness, completed problems, skill progress, mastery information, corrections, regrouping or division steps, and other learning history.
- Assignment information: homework and classwork assigned by a teacher, due dates, completion status, accuracy, problem history, step history, corrections, and whether Help or hints were used.
- Help and Live Assist information: a student’s current Math Salad learning surface, current problem state, progress step, help request, hints sent by an authorized adult, and pointer guidance during an active session.
- Technical and security information: information normally associated with operating a website or application, such as IP address, browser/device information, cookies, session information, security records, and server logs when enabled.
3. Practice data and school-work data
Math Salad separates free practice activity from assigned schoolwork. Practice results may be used to identify strengths, weak areas, and recommended skills, but practice activity is not intended to change official homework or classroom accuracy. Assigned schoolwork may be included in teacher reports and academic progress views.
4. How learning information is used
Math Salad uses learning information to provide math instruction, adapt practice, recommend skills, track progress, display student and classroom dashboards, support homework and classwork, help parents and teachers understand student performance, provide step-by-step guidance, and improve the educational experience.
5. Teacher and parent visibility
Authorized parents, teachers, and school staff may be able to view student progress and assigned work that they are permitted to access. A teacher may review completed assignments in a standard worksheet-style math format, including the problems completed, answers, corrections, step history, and whether Help was used. Access is limited to accounts that Math Salad recognizes as authorized for that student or school scope.
6. Live Assist and Help requests
Live Assist mirrors only the Math Salad learning surface. It is not general device screen sharing. During an active session, Math Salad may temporarily store the current problem surface and related session information so an authorized adult can guide the student. Help routing follows the learning context: At-Home Practice requests are intended for the student’s authorized parent or guardian, while School Assignment requests are intended for the authorized teacher or school user. The active learning snapshot is short-lived and expires quickly when the session stops updating. Help requests may remain associated with the student account long enough for the authorized adult to respond and for Math Salad to manage the request state.
7. Math Camera
Math Camera allows a parent or teacher to select or photograph a math problem and use optical character recognition to read the numbers and symbols. In the current Math Camera workflow, the selected image is processed in the user’s browser and is not saved to the Math Salad server as part of that feature. The image can be cleared with the Reset Image control. Third-party content-delivery services used to load browser-based OCR software may receive ordinary web-request information such as IP address and browser information.
8. How information may be shared
Math Salad may share information only as needed to operate the educational service, provide authorized parent/teacher/school access, use hosting, security, authentication, content-delivery, or other service providers, comply with legal obligations, protect users or the service, or complete a user-requested action.
Math Salad is not designed to sell student personal information or use student learning data for targeted advertising.
9. Cookies and sessions
Math Salad and WordPress may use cookies or similar session technology for sign-in, account security, preferences, authentication, and normal site operation. Blocking required cookies may prevent account features from working correctly.
10. Data retention
Math Salad is designed to keep personal information only as long as reasonably needed to provide the educational service, maintain security, satisfy legal obligations, meet applicable school requirements, or complete legitimate administrative needs. Student data should not be retained indefinitely when it is no longer needed. Some information may need to be retained for a limited period when required for security, legal, contractual, or recordkeeping reasons.
11. Privacy requests, account closure, and deletion
Math Salad provides privacy-request controls for signed-in authorized users. Available requests may include:
- Review or export personal data.
- Close an adult account.
- Delete a child profile and eligible associated data.
- Stop further optional collection or withdraw consent where applicable.
- Submit a privacy opt-out request.
For student-related requests, Math Salad may require verification that the requester is an authorized parent, guardian, teacher, school representative, or administrator before taking an irreversible action. Submitting a request places it into a verification process; it does not automatically delete records immediately. Information that must be retained for legal, security, school-contract, or other legitimate requirements may be excluded from deletion for as long as that requirement applies.
12. Children’s privacy
Math Salad is designed for use by children under the supervision or authorization of a parent, guardian, teacher, or school. Student profiles should be created and managed by an authorized adult. Parents, guardians, and schools should provide any notices or permissions required for their use of the service. If Math Salad learns that a student profile was created without appropriate authority, we may restrict the account while the matter is reviewed.
13. Security
Math Salad uses account permissions, authorization checks, nonces/session protections, and other technical and administrative safeguards intended to reduce unauthorized access. No internet service can guarantee absolute security, so users should protect their login credentials and report suspected unauthorized access promptly.
14. Changes to this Privacy Policy
Math Salad may update this Privacy Policy as the platform changes. The effective date at the top of the policy will be updated when material revisions are made.
15. Contact and privacy requests
Signed-in parents, teachers, and authorized users can use the Math Salad Privacy & Data controls available through their account to submit privacy, export, account-closure, or child-data requests. Other privacy questions may be submitted through the contact method provided on MathSalad.com.
